Below are a few words from our Executive Director, Daniel Macallair on the legacy of James’ life and work.
I am very saddened by news of the passing of James Bell. I knew James for nearly 40 years as a colleague and friend in the youth justice advocacy field. Few people could articulate the plight of children in the American juvenile justice system better than James. He was a stalwart and unwavering advocate for righting systemic injustices to which he devoted his life.
I am consoled by knowing that because he lived, there are countless children around the country who have a chance at a better life.
Well done, James, and thank you!
